Reflexology massage can be traced back 5000 years and was used in Chinese cultures. It was introduced to the West in 1913, by Dr. William H. Fitzgerald an American physician. It is a natural and drug free way to stimulate the internal organs by massaging certain areas on the foot or hand which correspond to the internal organs. It increases the circulation and may restore bodily functions to their normal rhythms, creating healing.

Auricular Thermal Therapy
The treatment we use in the West today is thought to have originated from Native American Hopi Indians in North Arizona. This is a gentle and soothing therapy. It is helpful for specific conditions and can calm stressful minds. Apart from the relaxation benefits it may be beneficial for a variety of conditions, for example, headaches, catarrh and sinusitis.
The treatment involves placing a special candle in the ear canal. Each ear is treated in turn. This is followed by a massage of the face and lymphatic drainage. This compliments the effect of the ear candles.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage
This is a treatment to aid drainage and removal excess fluids, toxins and waste from skin tissue. It is recommended for people who have undergone cosmetic surgery to minimize the effects of oedema and may speed up recovery. It is also an effective treatment for people living with lymphoedema, people who are post surgery for breast cancer, or in pregnancy it can be an effective treatment for swollen ankles.
Each treatment is adapted to the individual depending on your needs and where you are experiencing the excess fluid.
What you can expect from a treatment
At your first appointment we will discuss your needs and what treatment will give you the best outcome.
The treatment lasts approximately an hour and involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph fluid move to an area with working lymph vessels. I will focus on areas which house your main lymph nodes, such as your armpits, groin and neck. Light touch is applied and long strokes are applied so as not to flatten the lymph vessels. This promotes the lymph fluid to organs which will be able to effectively process and eliminate the toxins.
The number of treatments required depends on what you need and the amount of swelling is also taken into account.
Post treatment care
You will be given information on how to do self lymphatic drainage to improve your results. This treatment is not suitable for people who have the following:
An infection or inflammation in the swollen area
A blood clot
Heart problems
Cancer in the area
